Everything has a risk factor involved.
I filter, because I can. Simples.
I could get where I'm going, with caution admittedly,  a darn sight quicker, and without incident.
You could be stuck in the pissing down rain, or baking hot sun for hours in some cases, and get taken out at the next junction, because of, dehydration let's say. Or being pissed off queuing for so long, and making a wrong judgement.
If you don't want to filter, don't.
But I find your statement ridiculous.

And the following one declaring it the best post on this subject.

Fisticuffs may now commence.

When would a situation where you MUST filter arise? Policeman directing traffic tells you to?

I filter, I use common sense and years of inside knowledge as a cager and wage slave, to anticipate what drivers are going to do. Yes I may well have a scrape one day, but let's face it, filtering sensibly and within the law, has to be considerably safer than doing over a tonne on country roads?

The only time I would definitely filter even if I didn't feel like it is when traffic is stopped on the motorway or dual carriageway, I don't want to be the last vehicle that some numpty isn't going to see and plow into, always ride at least a car or two along .

if  you  must  is  your  call numpty dummys my choise  is only  my  choice  because i made  it !!!  SO AS I SAID IF YOU MUST !!!

have a bump doing it and see how quick you  get home, work , or  even hospital with  the  congestion it  will cause  just because  some one  else  chose  to change lane  the  second you  chose to" FILTER" (overtake/undertake as that's all it is by any  standard ) and  get  your  partner to tell the  kids dad /mam ain't  coming home any more or just Christmas is cancelled because mam /dad cant afford it anymore  as they can no longer work

but  i'm no saint i've  done it from time to time  but  as i said  IF YOU MUST   !!!!!!!!
