Member Sponsorship Idea
« on: September 13, 2018, 09:08:57 PM »
Following on from discussions on the 'Going Forward' thread, please read the following idea and post if you think it's a good idea and would become a Sponsor Member.

Reposted from the Going Forward thread

The forum as it stands with free membership is going down from lack of interest so how about considering a member sponsorship scheme ?

For members to want to get properly involved they need to have more of an element of belonging, or ownership of the forum.

Maybe we could have two levels of membership. In addition to the existing free membership we could have a voluntary Member Sponsor level involving a small monthly or annual payment. Member sponsors would get something back that free members don't get.

For example if 50 sponsor members paid £10 a year that's £500. After paying for the forum that would leave a considerable amount of money left over each year which could be put towards organising something solely for the sponsor members. It could go towards a free (depending on the number of sponsor members) trip to the NEC Bike show, a race meeting, or whatever people suggest. Free members could join the event if they wanted to but would have to pay full price. Maybe sponsor members names could go into a free raffle to win stuff. There are lots of possibilities really and I'm sure others would have more suggestions.

If people became sponsors and paid something toward the forum then perhaps they would get more involved and it would be more active. I suppose it would be a bit more of a club than just a forum.

Sounds good to me, I'm happy to chip in (although I'm more of a "solo" rider, not one for ride-outs).

Realise I've not exactly been active lately but I'd be happy to give £10 to keep this going   :hug

What do you expect? Forums are a dying entity, unless you have something to offer that makes it worth investing in, in this case there is nothing, its dead, its like having to pay a vet to put your dog down, same thing it'll die anyay and paying to keep it ticking over does nothing for anyone, sorry Tony but thats how it is mate, move it to facebook, keep the domain name for yourself and sell it at a later date when someone wants to buy it at a profit.

why does the forum cost so much  to run ?
the data usage must be minimal and .uk domain name’s are no more than £10/year 🤔

as Jason said, and me earlier, move it to Facebook and save the money for bike stuff 😁
anyone who says “I don’t do facebook” is an Ostrich, you don’t have to put up with the fakery, bullshit and narcissism, you don’t even have to friend anyone, just make a fake account with a pseudonym and join the groups that interest you.

Back to my original intention then, I'll let the forum close down and it'll disappear at the end of November. A shame for those that want to see it continue but without any serious support it's pointless to carry on.

I won't be setting up a facebook group as nobody ever uses the DB page I set up years ago. If anyone else wants to do it you're welcome to use the name and good luck to you but I'm out.  :thumb

Did you see my pm Tony.
It can all be free on Taptalk.
At least those that want to keep in touch can be able to do so.

It's a shame to see it going, the only forums doing well seem to be those with an international following with loads of members.

I do Facebook, it's great for keeping in touch and for groups but it falls over if you need to search for something you saw previously.
